- - De'vondre Campbell leaps up and deflects Brady's last-second 2-point conversion attempt to Russell Gage, sealing the game at 14-12.
All week, NFL fans have had their eyes set on one particular matchup. Brady's Tampa bay Buccaneers vs. Rodgers Green Bay Packers. Seeing as Tom Brady and Aaron Rodger have only competed against each other four times before last night. The mysticism of the two all-time greats' relationship makes this rivalry that much more exciting. After yesterday's win, Brady's lead has been cut to (3-2) against Rodgers.
To be forthright, this isn't much of a "rivalry" at all, considering Brady has had far more success than Rodgers. Nonetheless, fans find this pairing extremely exhilarating because amidst Brady's multiple decade-long dominance, only one man has been consistently under his nose chasing his shadow.
That man is Aaron Rodgers.
Despite all the lore behind the quarterback rivalry, this was not a high-scoring game at all. Only nine points were scored in the second half and both quarterbacks played all right, especially for their standards.
During the first half the Packers were dominant, even gaining a 14-3 lead. But soon after their second touchdown to Allen Lazard, Green Bay couldn't take care of the football.
In search of a third touchdown Rodger found Aaron Jones on third and goal, but Lavonte David sniffed him out entirely and smoked Aaron Jones from his right side, forcing Jones to drop the ball until ultimately, safety Logan Ryan scooped it up and secured the fumble.
Next, in the third quarter Rodgers flung the ball-intending for it to hit Robert Tonyan, but Logan Ryan once again made a huge defensive play as he went up and picked off the pass. After having forced two turnovers, the Bucs gathered plenty of momentum for Brady to come on the field and win them the game.
However, Green Bays' defense had other plans. The Bucs got to the Packer's 20-yard line and after three attempts they were forced to settle for another field goal, bringing the score to 14-6. All game, Brady couldn't quite convert his yardage to touchdowns. Each time he carried his team to the goaline, the Packers left them with no choice but to kick a field goal.
But with three minutes and four seconds left in the fourth quarter-starting at their own eleven-yard line, Tom Brady and the Bucs battled their way to first and goal. After a botched Fournette inside zone play, and an incomplete Cameron Brate pass, Brady finally found Russell Gage for a touchdown off an inside cross-route, making the score 14-12.
There were only 14 seconds left in the game, and the Bucs had no choice but to prepare for a two-point conversion and hopefully force overtime. Tampa's offense got set in their positions, in what seemed to be a run play where Fournette would run straight through the middle, and BOOM! They were hit with a delay of game and put back five yards.
With the game on the line and no time left on the clock, Brady threw towards Russell Gage on a post route, but miracuolously Green Bay's linebacker De'vondre Campbell rose to the sky and deflected the ball, saving the day for the Packers and giving Rodgers bragging rights until the next time the two face-off.
