UFC 270: Ngannou vs Gane

Updated: Dec 15, 2022

Francis Ngannou remains the heavyweight champion and defeated Ciryl Gane by unanimous decision. Shocking the MMA world and silencing his critics, Ngannou displayed his freshly refined takedown/grappling abilities and won in what most MMA fans considered the least predictable fashion.

Ngannou has solidified himself the title of "THE BADDEST MAN ON EARTH" as he continues to add new dimensions to his already lethal arsenal. As if Ngaannou's victory was not impressive enough, in his postfight interview Ngannou stated, "three weeks ago I hurt my knee, tore my MCL completely". He further explained that during training camp he also damaged his ACL and admittedly considered calling off the fight. But being the champion he is he "couldn't see [himself] retreating from this". Luckily for him, his resilience paid off and he did not endure further damage to his knee mid-fight.

After this impressive win, MMA fans are left wondering; at this stage in Ngannou's career is there any challenger that could be a legitimate threat to the heavyweight title? Furthermore, after a hot streak where Ngannou has had back-to-back dominant performances with talented fighters such as Gane and Stipe Miocic. Is a megafight between Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones out of the question?
